What is rally racing? Where do I go to rally race? How does it work? These are just a few questions that are asked of us each year. We would like to explain rally racing to you, and hopefully answer any questions that you may have.

Rally races are another avenue racers can pursue to get the chance to go to Akron, Ohio for the All-American Soap Box Derby championships. The rally season usually starts in August each year and stops weeks before the All-American race.

Rallies are held all over the United States. They are usually sponsored by the race locals. They may be held at the same location as the local race, or at another location within their area.

For each rally that is attended, the racer is granted one participation point. If the racer places in the top eight places, they are awarded an additional pre-determined amount of points. As the rally season goes on the racers accumulate points. At the end of the rally year, the top four finishes for each racer are totaled up along with the total amount of participation points to determine the top point holders. The number of champs, per division, that are sent to Akron is based on the number of rallies that are held in our district.

Rallies are also a great place to practice your racing skills, meet many people from different parts of the state or even different states. Rally racing has helped several racers become local champs.

If you would like more information on rallies, please contact your local race director or the All-American Soap Box Derby for more information.
